Enloe Magnet High School Orchestras and Chamber Music Ensembles
Orchestra I (Concert Orchestra): This orchestra is designed to continue the study of the fundamentals of music and technique. Students are expected to participate in all performance activities of this group. Prior orchestra experience recommended. No audition required.
Orchestra II (String Ensemble): This orchestra is designed to continue and expand the technical proficiency of the members through classical music, as well as a variety of auxiliary methods. Students are expected to participate in all performance activities of this group. Entrance by audition only.
Orchestra II (Sinfonietta): This orchestra will expand the technical proficiency of the members through the best in string orchestra literature. More advanced studies of intonation, shifting, and musicianship will be offered. Students are expected to participate in all performance activities of this group. Entrance by audition only.
Orchestra III (Chamber Orchestra): This orchestra is for students with a high level of technical proficiency. The emphasis of this group is on the performance of chamber music. Students are expected to participate in all performance activities of this group. Entrance by audition only.
Orchestra IV (Symphony Orchestra): This orchestra is open to students with a very high level of technical proficiency. The emphasis will be on the performance of the best of full orchestra literature. Students are expected to participate in all performance activities of this group. Entrance by audition only. Symphony winds will be selected by audition in the fall and must be fully enrolled members of the Enloe High School Band.
Magnet Honors Chamber Music is for students (Grades 10-12) who have prior musical experience and are looking to dive into the world of chamber music. Students in this course will study and develop their expertise in a small ensemble environment. In these roles students will take on the running of both their rehearsals and performances, with coachings and guidance from the director. Students will learn and practice advanced musical techniques through the evolution of chamber groups, dating back to the Medieval and Renaissance periods. Students will learn historical significance of small ensembles through the various musical eras and perform compositions from each of the respective eras. Students will be expected to collaborate with other students from all musical disciplines including piano, strings, woodwind, brass, percussion and voice. Performance opportunities may include school wide functions such as Magnet Fair, Curriculum Night and other invitations. Entrance by audition or recommendation.

About Ms. Alice Ming-Yi Ju
Ms. Alice Ming-Yi Ju, a Taiwanese-American Violinist from North Carolina, received her M.M.and B.M. in Violin Performance from the University of Maryland and M.A in Music Education from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She has attended the Killington Music Festival, Musicorda, Brevard Music Center and National Orchestral Institute. Her primary teachers include Kevin Lawrence, David Salness, and the late Dr. Richard Luby.
Ms. Ju has performed with many ensembles including the Ars Nova, Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, Avanti Orchestra, Apollo Orchestra, Inscape Chamber Orchestra, and Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she has soloed with the Raleigh and Durham Symphony Orchestras. She participated in masterclasses with Joseph Silverstein, Pamela Frank, William Preucil, Victor Danchenko, Ronald Copes, Roberto Diaz, Andrew Manze, Philip Setzer, Lisa Kim, James Buswell, Arnold Steinhardt, Nicholas Kitchen and Martin Chalifour. As a passionate chamber musician, she has performed the Brahms and Dvorak Piano Quintets, and most recently Shostakovich and Beethoven String Quartets with faculty members at the Levine School of Music and has worked closely with the Guarneri String Quartet, Miami String Quartet and the Left Bank String Quartet.
Prior to her appointment as the Director of Orchestra at Enloe, she was the Director of Orchestras at Green Hope High School in Cary, and Farmington High School in Farmington Hills, MI, on faculty at the prestigious Levine School of Music in Washington DC, and Orchestra Director in Fairfax County Public Schools. In addition, Ms. Ju was a Violin Sectional Coach for Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras- working with Artistic Director Jonathan Carney and Violin Instructor for Vienna Summer Strings while maintaining a private violin studio and freelancing in the Washington D.C. area. She is currently on the faculty of the North Carolina Chamber Music Institute, the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra Summer Strings Camp, the Board of Directors of Triangle Youth Music, a violinist in the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle and the Magnolia String Quartet.
